Business Trip to Indonesia (08/03/08)

With all the talk about precious metal investments, I visited a raising mining company at Batam Island, Indonesia, an Island about 10 kilometers away from Singapore. The ferry ride there was about an hour. The owner of this mining company is actually my dad’s friend, so that’s how I got to know him. I was there primarily to review their company’s website and to share how to use the internet to bring in more client and profit - not so much on metal investing yet.

The first thing that I noticed was that the domain name was too long and almost impossible to remember. Immediately, I recommended him to change the domain name. By then I have already got a suitable domain name in mind - www.PBImining.com (PBI is actually the company’s name)

Guess what? Mr Zhang (The owner) love the new domain name I suggested and immediately bought it at GoDaddy for 10 years. Upon leaving, he asked if I’m interested to help work on their company’s site. Well, I agreed! But it will only be after my military exercise which ends early May.

Good Domain Name

Here are some pointers you should consider when registering for a domain name…

* It should be less than 15 characters, it will be better if its 10 or less.
* Easy to remember
* It’s best to get a .com (easier to remember)
* At most 3 to 4 words
* Avoid double similar letters

A general rule will be when you tell your friend your website, he or she should be able to catch it the first if not the second time. If that doesn’t happen, most likely, it isn’t a good domain name.
