Last week, as I was reading one of Robert Kiyosaki’s RichDad series, he talked about a man named Colonel Sanders in one of his chapters. This man is none other than the man-like statue I always see when I dine in at KFC. It was only last week I came to realize who this figure was after 20 years of eating KFC.
Colonel Sanders was born in 1890 and it was only during 1952 he founded the company Kentucky Fried Chicken. Yes! He was 62 years old when he founded his first company and I believe that he sold his first franchise 4 years later when he was 66 years old. According to anyone at his age when he founded his company he should be getting ready for retirement NOT starting a company.
Now, KFC is known worldwide and you can probably find it in most of the developed or developing countries. That’s how big it has grown since then till now even without the founder himself. He died at the age 90 in 1980.
What’s the lesson learned?
Sanders didn’t say, oh I’m too old to start a restaurant so I’m just going to continue on my small time food service. If he would have think that way, we probably won’t have KFC today. Despite his age, he continued pursuing his business taking KFC to greater heights.
I often hear people say that if they were younger they will start a business or do something they like to do. But that’s not how it should be. It’s not about you being young or not. It has got nothing to do with your age. Starting young is only an advantage and not trying to do anything is a failure that you put upon yourself.
Don’t ever let your age determine your success in anything in life. Colonel Sanders is a great example! I hope this story have inspire you in some way or another to take your next step forward in life.
P.S. - If I didn’t make note on my blogging ideas notepad I would have forgotten that I want to share this story. So get your own blogging ideas notepad today! It’s only less that a dollar man!
