If there is one concept about network marketing that I most agree on, it would have to be the one which insists that “leadership is a major key for MLM success”. While it is passion that ignites a networking business, it is true and unbridled leadership that maintains and sets it off to unimaginable heights. As is mentioned by Robert Kiyosaki in his renowned book, leadership is like the fuel that keeps the fire in business burning. This fact is not limited to the field of online or offline network marketing, but applies to any type of business for that matter.

But what is this leadership all about and why is it considered to be that vital? Leadership in this case can be defined as the ability to influence the people around you and to inspire others to follow you, by virtue of good example. It is how you encourage others to act the way you act, it is how you convince them to keep at it, even if circumstances become difficult. In short, it is through leadership that keeps the momentum of your network marketing business going.

A majority of sad network marketing business downfalls can be attributed to failures in leadership. Much too often, we hear about MLM organizations falling apart slowly, piece by piece, due to lack of leadership, especially on the part of new distributors. Eventually, these new distributors fail to lead their downlines and such stories propagate until it is too late to save the business.

What then does it take to be a good network marketing business leader?

There are many ways to become one, but I would like to stress four points:

1. Be a natural. The only way to convince and encourage others to do what you need them to do is to exude confidence, not only in yourself but more importantly, in the organization. This is shown in the way that you communicate to your downlines and how you let your message across.

2. Provide the right motivation. The way you convince and motivate your downlines is a major factor that will affect the success of your networking business.

3. Focus on teamwork. It is very important to instill teamwork and to make it clear that the success of one in the network is the success of everyone else.

4. Train and educate. This is perhaps the most important contribution of a good leader. Take time to learn everything that you need to learn, and then share them in such a way that they will propagate and benefit the business.

An online network marketer has also got to be a good leader. However, never think that leadership is something that you either have or don’t have. No one is born a leader. Though there are those who seem to act more naturally than others, leadership is something that is learned through time and experience. It is honed through a lifetime of learning as each day brings you new experiences that put your skills, attitude and knowledge to the test.

If you (or your business) are struggling right now, you might only need to re-examine the attitude and mindset that are at work when you deal with your leads and downlines. Remember that the success of a network marketing business relies on the right leadership, and leadership starts nowhere else but with you.
