“I can never forget my sophomore years for it was then that my leadership skill was put to test. I was voted by my fellow students as the Honorary Secretary of the Club. I was so thrilled because I got one of the most important positions in the committee. However, there was a point that I doubted my capabilities to carry the responsibilities but eventually, my self-confidence outweighed all my fears and doubts.
I was challenged by the position given to me that I felt it was my chance to develop my potentials as a leader. I understand that I have to work harder compared to an ordinary member to achieve the goals we set. Now that my tenure as secretary has ended, I have learned so many things in dealing with my co-leaders and members harmoniously. I even discovered some important points on how to be an effective leader.“
Does this scenario sound familiar to you? Or probably you have experience it yourself?
In life, we bound to face challenges like this and it’s something not to avoid but to take it gracefully and grow. Below are some of my personal views which I love to share especially to those who aspire of becoming a good leader in the future.
1. Try to take initiatives and be responsive. At some point, people may look after your ideas as guides in making right decisions especially on matters that concern the organization. Don’t be afraid to show them that what you believe is beneficial to the group.
2. Avoid being a dominant leader. It is good to share your views but sometimes it is destructive to the group if you don’t know how to listen to other opinions as well. Don’t forget that you belong to a group where everybody has the right to be heard. A dominant leader is often despised by others.
3. Convert your mistakes into better ideas. We all know that we are entitled to make mistakes. Even the great leaders before us have their weaknesses. Don’t easily get upset and discouraged. Try to learn from your own mistakes and use it to generate better views and opinions.
4. Don’t give up easily your responsibilities. Quitters never succeed in anything. Remember that people around you has put their trust on you to carry the responsibility they put on your shoulder. A good leader never leaves his people in the middle of a battle.
5. Finally, a good leader is also a good follower. A group can never prosper if their leader is not dedicated to his job. The performance of the group mirrors what kind of a leader they have. Your good performance radiates to others and together you can make your group successful.
Each of us has to be a leader in many ways. When your time comes, give all the best you got because you are entitled to become one of the greatest leaders, it’s just a matter of choice. All you need to do is think wisely and follow what your heart desires and think of others welfare before thinking your own.

Excellent advice.
There’s a saying out there that “there’s no such thing as failure.” People don’t fail, they simply produce results, some of which aren’t what they had planned. When you look at what you’re doing in this way, it can make it easier to move on from a mistake or setback. You can see that the results you produced weren’t quite perfect, and learn how to make all the necessary corrections. This ties in with #3, “Convert your mistakes into better ideas.” Great leaders have always been able to rise above their setbacks. Abraham Lincoln is a notorious example of this.
Thanks again for the great leadership tips.
